[21:57:07] <ancient> I... AAAAMMMM....
[21:57:17] <vargas> (sorry, work called. Just a sec)
[21:57:22] <ancient> HA!
[21:57:43] <vargas> Just need to get the build machine going
[21:58:01] <ancient> Heh.
[21:59:22] <vargas> Sloooooooooooooooow
[22:01:21] * Vargas is sitting down on his sleeping bag on a bed of thick grass beneath a fir tree. Serribon stands on watch, and the forest is utterly dark. No campfires have been permitted in enemy territory.
[22:01:31] =-= Ancient is now known as D_M
[22:01:34] <d_m> Ok...
[22:03:04] * Vargas has prepared a powerful illusion. It is a spell of dreams that bridges the way between one dreamer and another. He casts the spell, and slides back into a deep meditative state. "The Sigilite."
[22:03:43] * Vargas slumbers in a deep trance until the magic can find his mentor, if it can at all, that night.
[22:04:34] <d_m> link spell, please.
[22:04:45] <vargas> http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/spells/dream.html#_dream
[22:08:04] <d_m> Click. You make a connection. You find yourself on a battlefield. A youthened Sigilite slays enemy warriors one after another, a Conan-esque figure, while scantily clad dames, all rescued in the nick of time, swoon in his general direction.
[22:08:56] * Vargas can't help but smile. He wishes that he could remember these dreams. Maybe he'll make one that does. Then again, he won't remember the desire to remember it.
[22:09:15] <d_m> Life is funny that way.
[22:09:20] * Vargas calls out, "Sig! Hear me, Sig!"
[22:10:03] <d_m> "Vargas!" says the Sigilite, turning to face you, his bulging muscles glistening with sweat and blood, his sword dripping. "What are you doing here?"
[22:10:57] <vargas> "I'm here to tell you about our quest to rescue Miriam, and perhaps, to make a confession."
[22:12:35] <d_m> "Confession! Good for the soul, Vargas, but you know I'm no priest! Come!" he says, clasping your shoulder. You're not sure when you went from shouting at one another across a battlefield to being adjacent. "We will confess together, before God, over good drink!" he declares, guiding you toward the head of the table. The hall is raucous with jubilant Viking revelers, but he plows through them like a ship through a storm.
[22:13:35] * Vargas follows, smacking a phantom aside with his cane when his beer mug comes perilously close to his hat.
[22:14:15] <vargas> "I will remember nothing on this conversation, but you will. So allow me to tell you our story."
[22:14:53] <d_m> "Wine! For both of us!" he shouts to a nubile serving girl, and then he plants himself and Vargas down upon the bench. "Speak your piece, Vargas of the many Vs."
[22:16:47] * Vargas first relates their capture of Faisal and his interrogation. He then leads on to the deal with the Roses, and the raid on Castle Danner. So we've found the place they've taken Miriam. And, with luck, we've outrun the speed of rumor. Temple guardians aside, I fear there is one enemy who may be waiting for us, and the Key."
[22:19:44] <d_m> "Mmmh," says the Sigilite, sipping his wine. The fire crackles on the hearth, and he shifts his feet a little closer to it, trying to find that perfect spot where it's just warm enough to be comfortable without singing under prolonged exposure. The inn is quiet at this hour, no other guests still up in the common room. The proprieter's wife is collecting a few used dishes from about the room, but otherwise you are alone.
[22:20:39] <vargas> (sec, quick work check on build server)
[22:27:38] <vargas> (back)
[22:27:42] <vargas> (sorry)
[22:28:57] <d_m> No problem.
[22:29:00] <d_m> Proceed.
[22:31:10] * Vargas sighs. "I know you have warned me time and time again, do not confront /that/ demon. I have sought out Benedict's advice, and that of his resident demonologist. His advice was that nothing could be done, and all we could do was Love her. And I fear that mounting this rescue goes against those warnings. That is the essence of my confession." He goes on...
[22:32:11] <vargas> "I know that if it is waiting for us, there will be nothing we can do. But every last one of us, even our goblin pirate, is willing to risk death itself to try and save her."
[22:33:04] <vargas> "Is it arrogant to try and save her? Am I leading them on a fools' errand?"
[22:33:08] * Vargas pauses.
[22:33:19] * Vargas reaches into his pocket, and pulls out a slip of paper.
[22:33:51] <vargas> "I am a cautious man. And I am weary of blind hope. Hope that wants for its own sake."
[22:33:52] <d_m> The Sigilite frowns as he absorbs Vargas's words. He closes his eyes and scratches his bearded chin.
[22:34:50] <vargas> "But here, in my hand, is proof. Tangible, physical proof that there is hope. A note from a future Miriam in her own script suggesting she is alive and well. Buried under a tree for centuries."
[22:35:41] * Vargas explains the story. "It's not just blind hope. That would be easier to write off. But real Hope. Hope that this piece of paper is not a ploy, but a promise of the future."
[22:38:35] <d_m> The Sigilite takes the paper and looks at it. He reads it. He chuckles. "So like her." He is himself, now, and you are not really conscious of the setting. It is unimportant. You are not even conscious of being not conscious of it. This is his dream, and his mind is only focused on the conversation at this point. "So you won't remember any of this when you wake?"
[22:39:10] <vargas> "No. Nothing. The only advice you can give would be by Sending the next morning."
[22:42:35] <d_m> "Mm, I suppose that's right. I can't really offer you anything anyway. Blind hope, hope with an object. Either one has its dangers." He sighs and looks out at nothing in particular. "We can't know the will of God, in the end. Or his path for us. It's all mystery."
[22:45:20] <d_m> And that was all of your message, right?
[22:45:53] <vargas> Yeah. It's basically just a mission summary, and expression of V's mixture of hope and fear
[22:46:40] <d_m> You snap out of your trance, then, aware that you delivered your message, but with no memory of having done so. You are, however, affected by a lingering sense of melancholy.
[22:49:02] =-= D_M is now known as Ancient
[22:55:05] * Vargas .oO(Gott, I will try my best. For Miriam, for my friends. I hope that will be enough. If we fail, at least we tried. If we fail, please look after Mom, Dad, the family, my friends, Bre... everyone.)
[22:55:09] * Vargas drifts off to sleep.
[22:55:21] <vargas> (done)
